    Location: CIES Building

Topic/Skill: Culture and Vocabulary (speaking and listening)

Feedback provided to tutee: I helped Fatima study for an exam she had. We went over new vocabulary and then she came up with examples sentences for each new vocabulary word (ex: annually, frequently). I focused more on correcting her sentence structure, making sure she didn't miss any prepositions and everything was spelled correctly. There was an instance where Fatima had used the vocab word "rival" wrong and wrote an example saying "my parents are rivals," so after going over the definition more in depth she rewrote it as "FSU and UF are rivals." After, I gave a mini "quiz" on defining the new vocabulary and providing an example sentence we hadn't used already to make sure she actually understood the definition of the new words. At the end we watched videos on YouTube about our country's national food and comparing our languages to see if they were similar or not, it was a great way to exchange cultural views.

Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: I learned to make sure that students must understand the topic we are learning/going over instead of memorizing it for now and forgetting later, repetition is important when learning new vocabulary. I also learned more about Saudi Arabian food and their customs on table etiquette, and that Arabic and Spanish have a good amount of similar words.
