Topic / Skill: Figure of speech and vocabulary (read an article)
Teacher Presentation: The instructor chose an article about entrepreneurship for the class to read together. Before reading, he had underlined new vocabulary words from the article and defined and gave an example for each of the vocabulary.
Classroom Management: The instructor called on students to read the article and helped them with the vocabulary they were confused about. He asked the students questions about the article to make sure they were following along and understanding. He used examples and language that the students knew so help them understand the article and the new vocabulary better such as talking about Real Madrid, the super bowl and Apple products. He catered more towards what the students knew to get them interested in the material.
Materials: article, whiteboard, projector
Student participation: Students read the article out loud, they answered the instructors questions and would sometimes come up with their own examples for the new vocabulary words.
Feedback Provided: The instructor encouraged his students to read out loud and provided positive feedback as they read. He would correct them with some of their pronunciation if needed and always told them to keep reading even if they made a mistake. He created a very comfortable and safe environment in his classroom.
Lesson on teaching you learned: How to create a comfortable and close connection with students in the classroom. It could be done by making jokes, doing the activity with them, catering the lesson more towards what students know to get them interested in the lesson and using examples with stuff students may already be familiar with.
