Feedback provided to tutee: I corrected some minor grammar mistakes and helped her with vocabulary
Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or tutee: My tutee really enjoys spoken conversation and is eager to learn! She sometimes has difficulties with speaking too quickly, and ends up making grammar or vocabulary mistakes in the process as a result of that. Based on her past experiences with learning English, I found out that she learned and partially acquired the language through immersion, especially movies and music. At a younger age, she had a teacher who would focus on memorization and behaviorism for a different foreign language, which was vastly ineffective (as we learned in class). Most importantly, today I learned that ESL students want opportunities to use the language, mostly through speaking, even in classroom environments. All in all it was a very enriching experience, and I look forward to future tutoring sessions!
