Topic/Skill: First Session Meeting

Feedback provided to the tutee: Since this was our first session we talked about what his goals in English were and his intentions of him learning the language. We also had a conversational session so I could see how advanced his level was and what we could improve. This session we got to know each other. Dojun has great grammar, so my feedback was positive overall. Another aspect of my feedback was not directly on his flaws but on his potential to improve pronunciation and speech speed with practice and stepping out of his comfort zone. At first, he was really hesitant to talk, but at the end of the session, he started making jokes and feeling more comfortable. 

Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or tutee: Although it is important on focusing in technical skills, this first meeting taught me that first impressions count. Building a connection allowed Dojun to have a positive association with the English language and made him look forward to the next sessions. It also allowed me to guide him instead of teaching him, which I have always felt nervous about.

Date/Time: November 3, 2023 Location: Student Union Topic/Skill: Scenario - Speaking Feedback provided to the tutee: In the beginning, I opened up a conversation about food, like traditional food, preferences, etc. Then I taught a couple of things like greetings, present simple tense, and the auxiliary "would." We also focused on some vocabulary relating to food before ending with a role-play play of ordering some food at Starbucks.
